About Me

Welcome to Writers in Training.

The mystery and power of words have always intrigued me. I was eight when I discovered I could create entirely new worlds with the simplest tools:  a pencil and a piece of paper.   I knew then that someday I would grow up to be an author.

However, I also knew I wanted to be a teacher.  Some of my happiest childhood hours were spent forcing my younger brother to play school. I was always the teacher, and he was my not-always-willing captive audience.

After over two decades of teaching in the elementary classroom, I love many aspects of my career.  However, my greatest passion lies in helping students discover who they are, what they can do, and how to use their words (both spoken and written) to impact the world around them.

This is my attempt to combine my two passions: writing and teaching.

Are you a teacher? A parent who homeschools? A parent of a child who shows an interest in creative writing?

Let me share ideas and strategies with you so you can encourage a young writer in your life to flourish!

I aim to help young writers develop skills, write what they love, and publish their ideas. I equip young writers and the adults who mentor them.

“The foundation of encouraging a child to thrive as a creative writer is authentic communication. Creativity flows from a place of safety and being known.”
